The Intermunicipal Community of Alto Minho (Portugal), also known as CIM Alto Minho, was established on 15 October 2008 as a legal person of public law, under Law No. 45/2008 of 27 August, which establishes the legal regime of municipal associations, encompassing the municipalities corresponding to the Territorial Statistics Unit of Level III (NUT III) Alto Minho, Arcos de Valdevez, Caminha, Melgaço, Monção, Paredes de Coura Ponte da Barca, Ponte de Lima, Valença, Viana do Castelo and Vila Nova de Cerveira.

An Intermunicipal Community (CIM) is a governmental organization that administrates the NUT III level region, ruled by a council of mayors and a chairman representing the associated municipalities.

The main responsabilities are:

  • Promotion, planning and management of economic, social and environmental development of the territory;
  • Articulation of municipal investments with intermunicipal interest;
  • Participation in the management of regional development support programs;
  • Planning of public bodies actions.

It is also the responsibility of the CIM to ensure the articulation between municipalities and central administration services in areas such as "spatial planning, nature conservation and natural resources", "mobility and transport" and "promotion of economic, social and cultural development.

Alto Minho represents an area of the excellence for promotion of the development and sharing of knowledge in a perspective of improvement of policies associated with the cultural heritage, particularly through the mobilization of the European Structural and investment funds.

Alto Minho is recognized as a tourist destination, being the cultural touring recognized as a tourist product of great importance level.

The role of the CIM Alto Minho on this project will contribute its experience and know how to: (i) exchange of good practices; (ii) organization of networking sessions; (iii) organization of dissemination sessions; (iv) mentoring programs, training and education networking; (v) Collaborate in the in the assessment, quality assurance, and further development of the plan, and in the transfer concept in collaboration with all partners (WP9, WP10, WP11 and WP12).
